He is single. His popularity among his friends and family members is due to his quick wit and ready sense of humor. Gallagher is attached to horse racing since his childhood days and rode jumpers as an amateur in Ireland. His elder brother Jimmy was a jockey.

Notes:
Gallagher worked at The Curragh for trainer Paddy Norris and for a couple of years with Andy Geraghty before coming to the US in 1980. He worked for a time at the late Earl Scheib's Green Thumb Farm, situated in Southern California , returned to Ireland for a brief period and thereafter headed back to Southern California to stay, working first with fellow Irishman John Sullivan from 1981-90 and joined up with riding legend-tur ned-traine r Bill Shoemaker. When Shoemaker was paralyzed in a 1991 auto accident, Paddy took up entire responsibi lity of the farm. During this time, Gallagher trained stakes winners Diazo, Fire the Gloom, Glen Kate and Fine n' Majestic. Gallagher trained Adminniest rator to win the $500,000 Turf in 2003, the first Sunshine Millions event at Santa Anita. Owners David Bienstock and Chuck Winner bought Domestic Dispute the week before the Kentucky Derby and gave Gallagher his first Derby starter in 2003. Paddy Gallagher, now has nearly eighty horses in care, evenly divided between Hollywood Park and Santa Anita. His current stock of horses includes a mix of young bloods including Augment, Clinet, Gilded and Dilemma. The Irish-bred Valbenny won her US debut in the 2006 Miesque Stakes at Hollywood Park. Valbenny gave Gallagher back-to-ba ck wins in Hollywoodà ¢€™s Honeymoon BC Handicap in 2005 with Three Degrees. Some of his graded stakes winners include Walkslikea duck (2000 Del Mar Derby), McCann's Mojave (2005 Ack Ack and California Cup Classic) and Tucked Away (2005 Clement L. Hirsch).
