Spencer is regarded as the godson of Irish racing and breeding kingpin John Magnier, owner of Coolmore Stud. His father George was a trainer in Ireland, best known for 1963 Champion Hurdle winner Winning Fair. Notes: Jamie Spencer was apprenticed to Irish trainer Liam Browne and rode his first winner on May 11, 1996 at Downpatrick. He was only 17 when riding Tommy Stack̢۪s Tarascon to victory in the 1998 Irish 1,000 Guineas. He became the champion of apprentice in Ireland in the next year. He came to England and formed a partnership with trainer Luca Cumani in 2000. His biggest success came aboard Gossamer, winner of the Fillies Mile and Irish 1,000 Guineas, and Endless Hall, winner of the Singapore International Cup. He moved back to Ireland in 2004 to become stable jockey for Aidan O̢۪Brien at Ballydoyle, owned by his godfather John Magnier. |
