Immigrated to Belmont Park in 1996 and registered wins at Churchill Downs, Calder and Tropical-at-Calder; clinched riding titles at Gulfstream Park for the 2007 Winter-Spring meet. Velasquez fought bravely but finished second riding Closing Argument in the 2005 Kentucky Derby. His 2000th win came on June 26, 2006 with Showing Up in the Colonial Turf Cup. |
