Just Jenda wins Monmouth Park feature
May 31, 2010OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) -Just Jenda pulled away in the stretch to win the $100,000 Monmouth Beach Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday, beating McVictory by 1 1/2 lengths.
Ridden by Terry Thompson and trained by Cindy Jones, the 4-year-old filly covered the mile and 70 yards in 1:42 and paid $5.40, $3.40 and $2.80, winning for the seventh time in 15 starts.
McVictory, who led most of the race, held on for second and paid $5.60 and $3.80, while Ask The Moon was a nose back in third and returned $6.
In the co-feature, Strike It Rich posted a wire-to-wire win in the $100,000 Little Silver Stakes, beating In The Rough by a length.
Trained by Christophe Clement and ridden by Garrett Gomez, the 3-year-old filly won her first career stakes and posted her third victory in seven career starts. Strike It Rich covered the six furlongs in 1:09 3/5 and paid $4.40, $2.80 and $2.60.
