Chestoria and Minnie Punt win stakes at Belmont
May 31, 2010NEW YORK (AP) -Chestoria and Minnie Punt each won a $100,000 New York-bred turf stakes race at Belmont Park on Sunday.
Chestoria rallied to beat Paraiba by 1 1/4 lengths in the Mount Vernon for fillies and mares. The 6-year-old trained by Bill Badgett got her seventh win in 24 starts. David Cohen was aboard as Chestoria ran the 1 1-16 miles in 1:42.89, paying $16.80 to win.
Minnie Punt needed a more dramatic rally to take the Kingston, surging six-wide in the lane to run past Uncle T Seven by a half length. Jose Lezcano guided the 4-year-old gelding to his fourth win in 10 starts.
Trained by Michael Miceli, Minnie Punt paid $11.40 to win as he was clocked in 1:39.73 for the same distance over the firm course.
