Unwritten wins Monmouth Park feature
May 29, 2010OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) -Unwritten earned a front-running victory in the $100,000 John J. Reilly Handicap at Monmouth Park on Saturday, beating Joey P. by three lengths.
Trained by Rick Dutrow Jr. and ridden by Edgar Prado, the 6-year-old gelding covered the six furlongs on a fast track in 1:10 and returned $9.20, $5.20 and $4.80.
Joey P. - who had won the race on three previous occasions, including last year's running - paid $4.80 and $3.40, while Hop Skip and Away was a half-length back in third and returned $11.
In the co-feature, Thunder Brew took the lead and drew off in the stretch to win the $100,000 Lamplighter Stakes, beating Fantastico Roberto by 1 1/4 lengths.
Trained by Anthony Pecoraro, the 3-year-old colt raced the 1 1-16 miles over a firm turf course in 1:40 2/5 with Carlos Marquez Jr. aboard and paid $9.20, $4 and $4.20.
Fantastico Roberto paid $4 and $4, while Houngun was three-quarters of a length back in third and returned $9 to show.
