Hour Glass wins Belmont's Vagrancy Handicap
May 29, 2010NEW YORK (AP) -Hour Glass squeezed through a narrow opening on the rail to beat Rightly So by a half length Saturday in the $140,000 Vagrancy Handicap for fillies and mares at Belmont Park.
David Cohen guided the 4-year-old into contention between rivals turning for home before diving to the rail for the rally in tight quarters that got her a fifth win in nine starts.
``I know she's pretty game,'' Cohen said. ``I definitely had the confidence that she would go through there. And that's the way things opened up for us. She's taken me through some pretty tight spots. I knew she had the heart to go through.''
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Hour Glass ran the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.68. She paid $9.30, $4.90 and $2.50. Rightly So returned $10.60 and $4.80. Tar Heel Mom paid $2.50 to show.
Saarlight was fourth followed by Malibu Prayer and Hold That Prospect.
