Breeders' Cup to be run under lights at Churchill
May 27, 2010LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -The 2010 Breeders' Cup will finish under the lights at Churchill Downs - one of two firsts for this year's race.
The $2 million Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic will run Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. EST. Churchill Downs and the Breeders' Cup released a statement Wednesday saying that it will mark the first time the race will use the artificial lights at the historic racing venue.
The race also marks the first time that Churchill Downs will host the race under the two-day Championship format, which began in 2007. Racing is scheduled for Nov. 5 and Nov. 6.
Banks of lights now encircle the track at Churchill Downs. They were installed to accommodate night racing during the summer and are sometimes used for early morning training.
