Gallant Son wins Inglewood Handicap at Hollywood

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) -Gallant Son took the lead on the final turn and held off a stretch rally from long shot Quindici Man for a 1 3/4-length victory in the $100,000 Inglewood Handicap on Sunday at Hollywood Park.

Ridden by Mike Smith, who won the same race last year aboard Madeo, Gallant Son sat fifth in the field of nine older horses in the early going, and despite going four-wide on the second turn came out of it with a two-length lead and won handily, covering 1 1-16 miles on turf in 1:39.67.

Gallant Son paid $8.20, $5 and $4. Quindici Man returned $17.80 and $9.60, and Glowing Praise finished third and paid $11.80.

Gallant Son, a 4-year-old colt trained by Frank Lucarelli for owners Chris and Diane Randall, has won two of three races since switching to turf.
