Emma's Posse takes Aqueduct feature on closing day
April 25, 2010NEW YORK (AP) -Emma's Posse took the lead midway through the stretch and won the $39,900 featured allowance race for 3-year-olds and up Sunday, the final day of the Aqueduct meet.
The 4-year-old bay gelding charged past leaders Monte Carlo and 4-5 favorite Star of New York for a 2 1/4-length win. Emma's Posse, ridden by Cornelio Velasquez, covered the seven furlongs in 1:24.01 over a sloppy track in winning for the second time in six starts this year.
The field was reduced to four after five horses were scratched. Emma's Posse, trained by Dominic Galluscio, returned $7.70 and $3.90. Monte Carlo paid $3.90. There was no show wagering.
Ramon Dominguez was the leading rider for the meet with 27 winners and Steve Asmussen topped all trainers with 12 wins.
Racing in New York resumes Friday at Belmont Park.
