Excessive Passion wins Hollywood Park feature
April 22, 2010INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) -Excessive Passion rallied on the outside to overtake pacesetter Locksley Hall and win Wednesday's $75,000 Harry Henson Stakes by a half-length on opening day of Hollywood Park's spring-summer meet.
Ridden by Martin Garcia, Excessive Passion covered six furlongs on the turf in 1:08.93 and paid $36, $19.80 and $12.80 at 17-1 odds.
Locksley Hall returned $22 and $13.20, while Smiling Tiger was another nose back in third and paid $5 to show. Jeff Bonde trains the winner and Smiling Tiger.
``Jeff said this horse can really run and has been working great. He told me to take him back and make one run,'' Garcia said. ``He broke beautifully and I took a long hold. When I angled him to the outside, he really finished.''
The victory was the third in four starts for Excessive Passion, who had been off since finishing last at Turf Paradise on Dec. 26.
Tyler Baze rode three consecutive winners on the card; while Garcia and David Flores won two each.
