Dr. W wins Big A's Billy Redcoat Stakes
April 22, 2010NEW YORK (AP) -Dr. W battled back to beat Mr. Fantasy, the 2-5 favorite, by a half length Thursday in the $60,000 Billy Redcoat Stakes for New York breds at Aqueduct.
Dr. W and Mr. Fantasy hooked up on the backstretch in a head-to-head battle. Mr. Fantasy was the apparent winner when Dr. W dropped back at the top of the stretch. Finding another burst of energy, Dr. W rallied gamely along the rail to pull out the victory in the final strides. David Cohen was aboard for trainer Steve Asmussen as Dr. W extended his winning streak to three. The 5-year-old gelding ran the seven furlongs in 1:22.78 on the fast track, improving to 9 for 30.
Dr. W paid $15.40, $4 and $2.70. Mr. Fantasy returned $2.50 and $2.10. Uncle T Seven paid $4.90 to show.
