Unzip me wins Las Cienegas Handicap at Santa Anita
April 12, 2010ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) -Four-year-old filly Unzip Me won her fourth straight and ended the downhill dominance of Gotta Have Her with a gate-to-wire victory in the $100,000 Las Cienegas Handicap on Sunday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Joe Talamo, Unzip Me went straight to the lead on Santa Anita's downhill turf course and never yielded, beating Czechers by 1 1/4 lengths and covering about 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:12.80.
Gotta Have Her, the even-money favorite who had won four straight on the downhill layout and was making her first start since finishing second against males in November's Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, was another length back in third.
Unzip Me paid $9.60, $5.20 and $3. Czechers returned $5.80 and $3.20. Gotta Have Her, who carried five more pounds than the winner, paid $2.10 to show.
It was the sixth win in 11 career starts for Unzip Her, a California-bred daughter of City Zip trained by Marty Jones.
She earned $60,000, for a career total of $279,700.
