Dream Nettie wins La Puente Stakes at Santa Anita
April 10, 2010ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) -Dream Nettie beat Lucky Rave by 3/4 of a length to win Saturday's $100,000 La Puente Stakes for 3-year-olds on the turf at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Joe Talamo, Dream Nettie sat second in the early going, took the lead from pacesetter Ace of Aces on the final turn and held off big rallies from Lucky Rave and Bogie to win in $1:48.80.
Dream Nettie paid $20, $9.20 and $5.80. Lucky Rave paid $6.40 and $4.40. Bogie paid $4.80 to show.
Ace of Aces faded to fourth, and the favorite, Fantastic Pick, was sixth.
A gelding trained and co-owned by Jerry Hollendorfer, Dream Nettie was racing for just the second time on turf, and for the first time going two turns on the grass.
``We have an improving horse and I think the more distance, the better,'' Hollendorfer said.
Dream Nettie earned $60,000 for the win, his third in eight races, for a career total of $107,800.
