3 horses fatally injured at Grand National meet

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) -Three horses have been fatally injured in races on the second day of the Grand National meet at Aintree.

Albertas Run won Friday's Melling Chase in a race in which Schindlers Hunt took a fatal fall at the third fence. The jockey, Paddy Flood, broke a collarbone.

Two other horses, Prudent Honour and Plaisir d'Estruval, died in falls at the same fence during the Topham Chase race won by Always Waining.

Albertas Run held off a strong challenge from Forpadydeplasterer to win the Melling Chase by 3 1/4 lengths. The horses were nearly even at the last of 16 jumps but Albertas Run pulled away for the win under jockey Tony McCoy.

In the Topham Chase, only 15 of the 27 starters completed the race.
