Wild in the Saddle eyes fall stakes at Santa Anita
September 5, 2015DEL MAR, Calif. – Wild in the Saddle, refreshed from an early-summer trip to the farm, won her second stakes of 2015 in the $108,330 Tranquility Lake Stakes for fillies and mares Wednesday at Del Mar.
Wild in the Saddle ($40.40) won the Tranquility Lake at 1 1/16 miles by three-quarters of a length over My Monet. Wild in the Saddle was given a break at owner Nadine Anderson’s farm in Hemet, Calif., after a fourth-place finish behind division leader Beholder in the Grade 3 Adoration Stakes at Santa Anita on June 13. “I’ve had her back for about a month,” trainer Richard Baltas said in the winner’s circle.
On Thursday, Baltas said he plans to run Wild in the Saddle at Santa Anita this fall. Wild in the Saddle won the Dream of Summer Stakes for California-bred fillies and mares at Santa Anita in March. A 6-year-old mare by Silic, Wild in the Saddle has won 9 of 37 starts and earned $360,968. Remarkably, she won a $5,000 claimer at 4 1/2 furlongs at Los Alamitos in September 2012 before being acquired by Anderson and co-owner Cheyenne Ortiz.
Baltas is looking to end Del Mar’s summer meeting on a winning note and plans to start the Grade 1 sprinter Big Macher in the $80,000 Pirate’s Bounty Stakes at six furlongs. Big Macher has not raced since finishing fifth in the $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen for sprinters March 28 in the United Arab Emirates. In 2014, Big Macher won the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes here.
