Ringneckdove back on dirt in Friday sprint feature
July 9, 2015Ringneckdove will be making a couple of notable moves when she starts in the sixth race Friday at Louisiana Downs. She will be returning to dirt and shortening up in distance for the first-level allowance for fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs.
Ringneckdove set the pace to the late stages of an optional $17,500 claiming race at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf in her last start June 10 at Louisiana Downs. Earlier in the year, she won a $25,000 starter allowance at seven furlongs on dirt at Delta Downs. Don Simington has the mount for Chad White and trainer Ray Spencer.
Other leading contenders include Lady Margots Humor and Dixie Lover. Lone Star will feature fillies and mares Friday night in the eighth race, a first-level allowance over 1 1/16 miles on turf. The horse to beat is Etasong, who was a five-length winner over conditioned-claiming rivals on turf June 20 at Lone Star. She has a chance to control the pace but in the late stages might have to hold off Sheridan’s Bling and Fccountryday.
A celebration of life for Steve Terpevich, who was a longtime Equibase representative at Louisiana Downs, is scheduled for Monday at Nicky’s Restaurant in Bossier City, La., according to track representative Vicky Walker. It begins at 6 p.m. Central. Terpevich, who died last Saturday, worked in the same capacity at Fair Grounds.
