Promise Me Silver undefeated with Two Altazano victory

Promise Me Silver remained undefeated in six career starts Saturday night, when the 3-year-old filly won the $75,000 Two Altazano division of the Texas Stallion Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park by 9 3/4 lengths. It was the fifth straight stakes win for Promise Me Silver, who races for her breeders, Myrna and Robert Luttrell. “We’ve been waiting for her for a long time,” said Robert Luttrell.

The Two Altazano was one of three restricted stakes on the card at Sam Houston. Supermason was a 14-length winner of the Jim’s Orbit division of the Texas Stallion Stakes, while Magna Breeze set a new course record winning the $50,000 Jersey Village.

Promise Me Silver ($2.10) broke well and was prominent throughout, racing with the leaders through an opening quarter in 23.09 seconds in the seven-furlong race. Promise Me Silver took over through a half-mile in 46.14, then came home in hand in 1:25.09. “She's got a lot of class,” said Cliff Berry, who was aboard Promise Me Silver for trainer Bret Calhoun. “She's a racehorse.”

Promise Me Silver's stakes streak includes the Debutante at Churchill Downs and the Dixie Belle at Oaklawn Park. She is a daughter of Silver City, and she now has career earnings of $259,355.

Supermason led a Calhoun sweep of the 3-year-old stakes on the card with his win in the Jim’s Orbit. The horse always was prominent while covering seven furlongs on a fast track in 1:23.56. Lindey Wade rode the winner for Brad Grady. Supermason won over Flying Frenchman and paid $3.

Magna Breeze ($4.80) set a new course record for 1 1/16 miles on turf at Sam Houston when he won the Jersey Village on firm ground in 1:42.80. Berry was aboard for trainer Mike Maker. Magna Breeze, who rallied for a 1 1/2-length win over Rule Breaker, races for William Butler. The Jersey Village was for 4-year-olds and up bred in Texas.
