City Trip dominates Shenandoah Stakes
January 22, 2015A series of sharp workouts from the gate indicated the 6-year-old mare City Trip was sitting on a big race and she delivered just that in Wednesday night’s $30,000 Shenandoah Stakes for fillies and mares at Charles Town.
Ridden by Arnaldo Bocachica for owner-trainer Jamie Stokes, City Trip ($10) emerged from a dense fog with a clear lead and cruised to a five-length victory, covering 4 1/2 furlongs in 51.96 seconds. It was her first start since early September and her first victory in four tries on dirt. All three of her previous victories came on Polytrack or turf.
Saturday Surprise finished second as the 8-6 favorite, 1 1/4 lengths in front of 2-1 second choice Great Crowd.
