Aqueduct, Parx cancel Monday cards
February 4, 2014Due to a winter storm that was expected to bring several inches of snow to the Northeast, live racing was canceled Monday at both Aqueduct in New York City and Parx near Philadelphia.
Aqueduct and Belmont Park were to be open for simulcasting, with only three Thoroughbred tracks - Beulah, Sam Houston and Turf Paradise - as well the harness track Monticello Raceway still slated for live racing.
The storm, which began in the early morning hours Monday, was forecast to bring 4 to 8 inches to the Philadelphia area and 6 to 10 inches to New York. Morning training was canceled at both Aqueduct and Belmont Park.
For Aqueduct, it was the fifth full card of the winter meet that has been canceled due to weather. Another card lost its final eight races due to fog.
In February, Aqueduct has shifted to a four-day race week, meaning the next live card is not scheduled until Friday. Parx is hoping to resume living racing on Tuesday.
