The prospective field for the 138th Preakness on May 18 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore is holding sway at 12 3-year-olds following one addition and one subtraction Tuesday morning.
Maryland Jockey Club officials reported via Twitter that trainer D. Wayne Lukas has informed them of his intention to run Titletown Five in the Preakness, along with his other two colts already confirmed, Oxbow and Will Take Charge.
In the meantime, trainer Ken McPeek announced via Twitter that he has withdrawn Bellarmine from consideration.
Titletown Five, owned by a group that includes football legend Paul Hornung, most recently was fourth in the April 27 Derby Trial at Churchill Downs.
Bellarmine won his second consecutive race when downing the well-regarded Code West in a first-level allowance route on the Kentucky Derby undercard Saturday at Churchill.
The solid favorite for the 1 3/16-mile Preakness is Orb, a 2 1/2-length winner of the Derby. Orb will remain stabled in New York before being vanned to Pimlico early next week.
In alphabetical order, these are the 12 known Preakness Stakes Contenders:
Departing, Goldencents, Govenor Charlie, Itsmyluckyday, Mylute, Normandy Invasion, Orb, Oxbow, Street Spice, Titletown Five, Vyjack, and Will Take Charge.
At least one of those, Mylute, is not 100 percent confirmed, as trainer Tom Amoss said he will be discussing the colt’s Preakness status Tuesday afternoon with the colt’s owners.
