Gulfstream Park: Dullahan set to rejoin Romans stable at track
January 8, 2013HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Trainer Dale Romans said Dullahan is now scheduled to rejoin his stable here later this week. The Blue Grass and Pacific Classic winner had originally been scheduled to return to training just after the first of the year.
“He was coming last week but got a little cut on his leg while out in the field that we had to put three stitches in,” Romans said. “He’ll be down in a few days. It set him back a week maybe.”
Romans said his other top older horse, Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Little Mike, has been galloping here on a regular basis and should start breezing again within the next 10 days to two weeks. He also expressed a little surprise at the fact Little Mike was not among the three finalists for Horse of the Year honors, especially considering he is a finalist in the older male and male turf horse divisions. The Horse of the Year finalists are Fort Larned, I’ll Have Another, and Wise Dan.
“The way everything unfolded, and he got voted for the other two categories, I thought he would be a finalist for Horse of the Year,” Romans said. “But the other three that are named all are certainly worthy of it.”
Romans said neither Dullahan nor Little Mike is scheduled to race here this winter.
“Right now, the plan is to take them both to Dubai for a race on March 9 as a prep for the Dubai World Cup Day later in the month.
