Rolling Fog takes Del Mar Futurity for Baffert
September 6, 2012DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) - Rolling Fog took the lead on the turn and held off a charge from favored Know More on Wednesday to win the $300,000 Del Mar Futurity, a race for 2-year-olds that often serves as an early indicator of Kentucky Derby candidates.
The Bob Baffert-trained colt ridden by Rafael Bejarano covered seven furlongs in 1:22.96
Rolling Fog paid $16.60, $7 and $4.80. Know More earned $3.40 and $2.80, while Scherer Magic returned $5.80 to show.
Baffert, a Hall-of-Famer who has saddled three Kentucky Derby winners, won his 11th Del Mar Futurity two days after his father, William G. Baffert, died in Arizona.
