Funfair romps in Colleen Stakes at Monmouth
August 12, 2012OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Catherine M. Wills' Funfair put away an early challenge by I Am Discreet and romped to a 3 1/4-length victory in the $60,000 Colleen Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday.
Trained by Christophe Clement, Funfair covered the five furlongs over the firm turf course in 56.68 as the favorite in the field of eight 2-year-old fillies. The Joe Bravo-ridden winner paid $3.20, $2.40 and $2.10.
I Am Discreet held the place and paid $3.40 and $3.20. It was another head back to hard-charging Doubled, who paid $6.20 to show.
``She's a really special horse,'' winning jockey Joe Bravo said. ``You had to be impressed with today's effort.''
A daughter of More Than Ready from the Distant View mare Fleuron, Funfair is now a perfect two-for-two, earning $78,000 for her connections.
