Joe Talamo takes 5, including feature at Del Mar
August 2, 2012DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) - Jockey Joe Talamo won five races Thursday at Del Mar, including a gate-to-wire romp in near-record time aboard Obviously in the feature.
Talamo also won the first, second, fifth and ninth races to take his win total to 17 and tie him with Rafael Bejarano for second, one behind Garrett Gomez, in the Del Mar rider standings.
In the $82,212 feature, Talamo shot to the front aboard Obviously, a 4-year-old Irish-bred gelding trained by Mike Mitchell. He led by four lengths after the final turn and won by five, covering the mile in 1:32.41, just short of the course record of 1:32.21.
Obviously paid $8.20, $4 and $3.20 for his fourth win in 14 career starts. Racing Aptitude was second and paid $5.60 and $3.60. Thirtyfirststreet returned $3.80 to show.
