SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Long shot Spy in the Sky took a narrow lead above the final jump and held off a determined Left Unsaid to win the $100,000, Grade 1 A.P. Smithwick Memorial Steeplechase by a nose Thursday at Saratoga Race Course.

Danielle Hodson rode the Jimmy Day-trained 8-year-old gelding, who went into the Smithwick without a win in two years. He ran 2 1/16 miles in 3:50.02 and returned $52, $21.80 and $13.40. Left Unsaid paid $6.70 and $6.50. All Together, third of 10, paid $10.60.

Spy in the Sky earned $60,000 for owner Randleston Farm.
