Horse co-owned by Drew Brees comes out OK
July 19, 2012DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) - Holy Candy, a 3-year-old colt co-owned by New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, will be fine after being pulled up in the Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar.
Trainer John Sadler says Holy Candy will undergo testing, including X-rays, to provide a full diagnosis. However, Sadler says the general area of the injury is in the colt's left front leg.
``He'll be given some time off. How much is yet to be determined,'' Sadler said Thursday.
Holy Candy, co-owned by Craig Stables and Donkey Island LLC, which includes Brees as a partner, was pulled up by jockey Garrett Gomez past the finish line of the race Wednesday on opening day at Del Mar. Holy Candy was the favorite for the second division of the Oceanside.
Holy Candy finished fourth in the Blue Grass Stakes earlier this year, but did not run in the Triple Crown series.
