Master Chef wins Betfair Hollywood Park feature
July 14, 2012INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Master Chef won for the second time in less than a month Friday night, beating Memphis by a nose to take the $52,000 feature at Betfair Hollywood Park.
The favorite in a field of five, Master Chef and jockey Joseph Talamo took the lead from the gate and never yielded, covering six furlongs in 1:11.19 and paying $4.80, $3.40 and $2.60. Memphis paid $4.20 and $2.80. Daylight Magic paid $2.60 to show.
Trainer Mark Glatt and owner Donkey Island Racing had claimed Master Chef for $20,000 after his last victory on June 28, and after Friday night's win the 5-year-old gelding was promptly claimed again for $25,000 by a group led by trainer Peter Miller, one of 15 parties who had put in claims before the race.
Master Chef has won six times in 24 career starts and earned $239,808.
