Clear Attempt wins Belmont's Poker Stakes
July 4, 2012NEW YORK (AP) - Clear Attempt, making his stakes debut, held off even-money favorite Compliance Officer by 1 3-4 lengths for an 8-1 upset in the $150,000 Poker Stakes on the turf at Belmont Park.
Never worse than second at any point, Clear Attempt took charge in mid-stretch for his third win in 11 starts for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott. Jose Lezcano was aboard as the 4-year-old ran the mile in 1:34.01 on the firm course.
Clear Attempt paid $19.80, $6.10 and $4. Compliance Officer returned $3 and $2.50 while Yield Bogey paid $5.60 to show.
