Mystical Star, Teeth of the Dog win at Belmont
June 30, 2012NEW YORK (AP) - Mystical Star and Teeth of the Dog won the $200,000 stakes on Saturday at Belmont Park.
Mystical Star beat Aruna by a length in the New York for fillies and mares on the turf. Jose Lezcano was aboard for trainer Christophe Clement as the 4-year-old improved to 4 for 8 with her first stakes victory. Mystical Star paid $11.80 to win, running 1 1/4 miles in 2:00.17.
Teeth of the Dog has won two stakes at Belmont since finishing fifth in the Preakness. He held off Fast Falcon by a neck in the Dwyer for 3-year-olds.
Joel Rosario, recently relocated to New York from California, was aboard for trainer Michael Matz as Teeth of the Dog covered the 1 1-16 miles in 1:41.34, paying $4 to win as the even-money favorite.
