Shanghai Bobby wins Belmont's Track Barron Stakes
June 27, 2012NEW YORK (AP) - Shanghai Bobby improved to 2 for 2 on Wednesday, beating Handsome Jack by a length in the $85,000 Track Barron Stakes for 2-year-olds at Belmont Park.
Shanghai Bobby, trained by Todd Pletcher, broke alertly to engage Cay to Pomeroy in a spirited duel for the lead. After racing that rival into submission, Shanghai Bobby appeared vulnerable as Handsome Jack mounted a stretch bid. With Rosie Napravnik urging him on, Shanghai Bobby dug in to preserve the victory.
He ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:02.87, and paid $3, $2.40 and $2.10.
Handsome Jack returned $4.20 and $3.70, and Nice Going paid $7.40 to show.
