Le Bernardin narrowly wins Monmouth Park feature
June 17, 2012OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Le Bernardin held off Easter Gift by a neck Sunday in the $100,000 Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday.
Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and ridden by Mike Luzzi, the 3-year-old colt ran 1 1/16 miles on the fast track in 1:44.51 and returned $12, $5.40 and $3.40. The victory in the Grade III stakes was the third win in five career starts for Le Bernardin, who has earned $146,000.
Earlier on the card, Inspired raced to a wire-to-wire win In the $60,000 Fort Monmouth Stakes, beating Classy Zip by three-quarters of a length. Ridden by Roberto Alvarado Jr. and trained by Alan Iwinski, the 5-year-old mare ran the 5 1/2 furlongs on the firm turf course in 1:01.23.
