Ullapool romps in the Belmont feature
June 15, 2012NEW YORK (AP) - Ullapool, the 1-2 favorite, romped to a 9 1/2-length victory over Princess Mara on Friday in the $55,000 allowance feature for fillies and mares at Belmont Park.
Claimed for $25,000 from her previous start by trainer Eddie Kenneally, Ullapool rocketed right to the lead with Javier Castellano aboard. Ahead by 10 lengths at the top of the stretch, the gray 3-year-old coasted home for her third win in eight starts. The time was 1:23.27 for seven furlongs on the fast track.
Ullapool paid $3, $2.30 and $2.10. Princess Mara nosed out Bid a Moon for second, returning $3.90 and $2.80. Bid a Moon, the 3-1 second choice, paid $2.30 to show.
