EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Prosecutors say a horse trainer will be the first of seven people who are charged in an alleged Mexican drug cartel money laundering scheme to appear in federal court.

Forty-eight-year-old Eusevio Maldonado Huitron will appear Friday before a judge in Austin, where he was arrested in a multistate sweep by federal agencies. The raids targeted a network alleged to have laundered millions of dollars for the Zetas drug gang by purchasing race horses.

Jose Trevino and wife Zulema Trevino were arrested at their Oklahoma horse ranch. His brothers, Miguel Angel and Oscar Omar Trevino, reputedly two top Zetas leaders, also are named in the indictment but are believed to be in Mexico.

The Zetas are accused of smuggling thousands of tons of drugs into the United States and dismembering rivals.
