Jazzy Idea wins Monmouth Park feature
June 9, 2012OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Jazzy Idea used a strong stretch drive to rally from last to first in the $60,000 Crank It Up Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday, beating the favored Stopshoppingmaria by three-quarters of a length.
Owned and trained by Edwin Merryman, the 3-year-old filly ran 5 1/2 furlongs on a firm turf course in 1:01 2-5 and returned $7.20, $3 and $2.40. She was ridden by Elvis Trujillo, who won five races on the day
Stopshoppingmaria paid $2.40 and $2.40, while Sensible Lady was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third and returned $2.60.
The stakes win was the second for Jazzy Idea and her fifth victory in 11 lifetime starts, boosting her career earnings to $191,030.
