Jockey injured at Los Alamitos Race Course

CYPRESS, Calif. (AP) - A jockey has been injured at Los Alamitos Race Course in Orange County.

Publicity director Orlando Gutierrez says the accident happened at about 8:45 p.m. Friday. He says eight thoroughbreds were racing when one horse went down and a horse behind him tripped.

Gutierrez says one jockey was taken to University of California, Irvine Medical Center with possibly broken ribs.

He says the other jockey did not seek treatment.

Gutierrez says one horse was taken away by ambulance. The animal's condition is not known. The other horse was not hurt.

According to its website, the track hosts both thoroughbred and quarter horse racing.

Los Alamitos Race Course is located in the city of Cypress, about 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.
