Include Me Out wins Everett Handicap at Hollywood
May 19, 2012INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Include Me Out beat early leader Ellafitz by three-quarters of a length Saturday in the $150,000 Marjorie L. Everett Handicap at Betfair Hollywood Park, giving the 4-year-old filly her third straight victory - all in graded stakes.
Ridden by Joe Talamo for trainer Ron Ellis, Include Me Out stalked Ellafitz in second amid a field of six fillies and mares for most of the Grade 2 race, until this year known as the Milady Handicap. Include me out took the lead on the second turn and held on for the win, covering 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.15.
``On paper it looked like it would go like that and it was perfect,'' said Ellis, who indicated his filly would return for the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap on June 16.
The winner paid $4.60, $2.40 and $2.20. Ellafitz returned $3.20 and $2.60, and Caelis paid $3.80 to show.
Include Me Out won for the fifth time in nine lifetime starts, earning $90,000 to take her lifetime total to $453,600.
Earlier Saturday, Via Villaggio rallied in the stretch to catch huge favorite Sister Moon in the $100,000 Railbird Stakes for 3-year-old fillies.
A 1-20 favorite whose three opponents were all 10-1 or higher, Sister Moon took the lead from the gate as expected in the seven-furlong sprint, but led by only a head coming out of the turn. Via Villaggio and jockey Martin Pedroza fought their way in front of the favorite and won by a half-length in 1:23.03.
Via Villaggio paid $23 and $3, and Sister Moon returned $2.10. There was no show wagering because of the small field.
The winner is trained, Jerry Hollendorfer for owner Steve Beneto, earned $60,000.
