Sunny Desert, I'll Stake U win at Belmont
May 6, 2012NEW YORK (AP) - Sunny Desert and I'll Stake U won the $100,000 divisions of the New York Stallion Stakes for 3-year-olds on Sunday at Belmont Park.
Sunny Desert, the 2-1 favorite, took the Park Avenue for fillies by a nose over Hot Splash in 1:17.10 for 6 1/2 furlongs with Ramon Dominguez aboard. It was her second straight victory for trainer John Parisella. Sunny Desert paid $6 to win.
I'll Stake U captured the Time Square for colts and geldings for his second win in 11 starts. He rallied to beat Sportswriter, the 2-5 favorite, by three quarters of length. The time was 1:16.69.
Rosie Napravnik rode for trainer Derek Smith as I'll Stake U paid $13.20 to win as the 5-1 second choice.
