Leparoux ties Keeneland record with 6 wins in day
April 20, 2012LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Jockey Julien Leparoux equaled a 22-year-old Keeneland record by winning six races in one day.
The 28-year-old Leparoux tied Randy Romero and Craig Perret, who both won six races in April 1990.
Leparoux, who had eight mounts, started out Friday with consecutive wins on Rhonin Victoria and Love Reigns.
After a fourth-place finish on Pisgah Station, he won four in a row riding Rally Point, Sum of the Parts, Julie's Love and Into the Fray. He came up short in his chance to break the record, finishing second by a neck on Kathmanblu in the $100,000 Grade 3 Doubledogdare.
``It was a great day,'' said Leparoux, who had Kathmanblu in first place heading into the backstretch. ``I was really thinking I could get it.''
