LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A proposal to ban a race day anti-bleeding medication has failed to make it past the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission.

The commission on Monday ended a tense debate on the use of furosemide with a 7-7 tie roll call vote at a meeting in Lexington.

Commission members said the proposal may resurface again after some changes are made.

If the ban had passed, Kentucky would have been the first state to prohibit furosemide on race days. A committee earlier in the day had recommended the draft to the commission, which is the governing body for horse racing in Kentucky.
