Silver Max runs away with Transylvania Stakes
April 6, 2012LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Silver Max took an early lead and coasted home for an easy victory in the Grade 3 Transylvania Stakes on Friday at Keeneland.
It was the second straight victory for Silver Max. The brown colt also won a starter optional claiming race last month at Gulfstream Park. He finished fifth in the Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream on Jan. 29.
Silver Max remained unchallenged from the start of the 1 1-16 miles on turf and won by 5 1/2 lengths. He finished in 1:41.81 and paid $8.60, $4.20 and $2.80. Travel Advisory returned $6.20 and $4. State of Play finished third, paying $2.80.
Monastic, the pre-race favorite for the kickoff to Keeneland's spring meet, was shifted out five wide leaving the second turn and finished fourth in the six-horse field
