DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - Monterosso won the $10 million Dubai World Cup, the world's richest horse race, in a victory for the ruler of Dubai after one of his horses was badly injured in an earlier race.

The outcome Saturday also gave a boost to Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's stables, which had not won the race since 2006. All four of their horses were long shots.

Monterosso, who finished third in this race last year, beat Capponi by three lengths. Planteur was another half-length behind.

The favorite, So You Think, and last year's runner-up, Transcend, made a strong start. The Bill Mott-trained filly Royal Delta joined the leaders only to fade as did Game On Dude, trained by Bob Baffert. Game On Due was ridden by Chantal Sutherland, the first female jockey ever to ride in this racing showcase.
