Dominguez dislocates collar bone in Big A spill
March 18, 2012NEW YORK (AP) - Ramon Dominguez, the two-time defending Eclipse Award winner as the nation's leading jockey, suffered a dislocated collar bone in a spill at Aqueduct on Sunday.
Dominguez was aboard Mob Wife in the eighth race when the filly fell in the stretch and he was thrown to the track. Suave N Sassy then crashed into Mob Wife, unseating apprentice jockey Samuel Camacho Jr.
Dominguez was able to walk off to an ambulance; Camacho was removed on a stretcher. Both were transported to a hospital, according to the New York Racing Association's jockey advocate.
X-rays on Camacho were negative. He hopes to resume riding on Wednesday. There was no timetable for Dominguez's return.
Dominguez won three races on the Sunday card at Aqueduct, including the Time Tested Stakes on Flat Bold. Dominguez is the regular rider for Havre de Grace, the 2011 Horse of the Year who captured the New Orleans Ladies Stakes on Saturday at the Fair Grounds.
Both horses involved in the spill appeared to escape without serious injury.
