McLaughlin saddles 1,000th winner
March 16, 2012NEW YORK (AP) - Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin notched his 1,000th career winner in North America when Que Posse won the eighth race at Aqueduct on Friday.
He was in Florida at the time, leaving assistants Art Magnuson and brother Neal McLaughlin to saddle the horse. The majority of McLaughlin's winners have come at New York's three major tracks, including Belmont and Saratoga.
The 51-year-old trainer oversaw 2006 Horse of the Year Invasor and 2006 Belmont Stakes winner Jazil. McLaughlin previously worked as an assistant to Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas and as the agent for the late jockey Chris Antley. He trained in Dubai from 1993-2003, winning more than 300 races while training for client Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum.
