McLaughlin wins 1,000th race in Big A feature
March 16, 2012NEW YORK (AP) - Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin won his 1,000th race in North America when Que Posse beat Hewitts by 21/4 lengths Friday in the $64,000 allowance feature at Aqueduct.
A former assistant to Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas, McLaughlin was also a leading trainer in Dubai. McLaughlin developed a number of standouts, including 2006 Horse of the Year Invasor and Jazil, winner of the Belmont Stakes that same season.
Making his first start since August, Que Posse pulled away for his fourth win in 10 starts. Eddie Castro was aboard the 5-year-old gelding, who was timed in 1:11.30 for six furlongs.
Que Posse, a 10-1 shot, paid $23.40, $9.10 and $5. Hewitts returned $15 and $5.60 while Overcommunication paid $2.30 to show.
