Izzy Rules wins Las Flores Stakes at Santa Anita
March 11, 2012ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Izzy Rules beat Spectacular Sky by 4 1/4 lengths Sunday in the $100,000 Las Flores Stakes for older fillies and mares Sunday at Santa Anita, her fourth consecutive victory and first in a stakes race.
Ridden by Edwin Maldonado, who won his first stakes at Santa Anita, Izzy Rules ran 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:14.59 and paid $4.60, $3.20 and $2.80 as the 13-10 favorite.
Spectacular Sky returned $4 and $3.40, while She's Cheeky was another three-quarters of a length back in third and paid $3.40 to show.
Before her current streak, Izzy Rules had just one win in 11 starts following victories in her first two career starts. Her winning streak started in a $20,000 claiming race in December at Hollywood Park
``This win feels great,'' Maldonado said, ``and it's a dream come true. I was hoping to win a stakes race here at Santa Anita, and I finally did.''
The victory, worth $60,000, increased Izzy Rules' career earnings to $264,306, with seven wins in 17 starts.
