Starspangled Heat wins Santa Anita feature
February 24, 2012ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Starspangled Heat rallied from last in the field of seven to beat Circa'sgoldengear by a head and win the $58,700 Silence Is Golden Purse for California-breds at Santa Anita on Friday.
Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Starspangled Heat ran 6 1-2 furlongs on the hillside turf course in 1:13.47 and paid $5.40, $3.20 and $2.40 as the 17-10 favorite. Circa'sgoldengear returned $5.80 and $3.60, while Star Nicholas was another nose back in third and paid $3.40 to show. Earnedenevergiven was a neck back in fourth in the driving four-horse finish.
The victory, worth $34,800, increased Starspangled Heat's career earnings to $128,010, with two wins in 13 starts.
Trainer Doug O'Neill saddled three winners on the card.
