Carbonite wins Santa Anita feature
February 9, 2012ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Carbonite beat stablemate Pressday by a neck to win the $64,050 Fools Rush In Purse on Thursday at Santa Anita, giving trainer John Sadler a 1-2 finish.
Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Carbonite ran 6 1-2 furlongs on the hillside turf course in 1:12.83 and paid $8, $4 and $2.40.
Pressday returned $3.60 and $2.40 as the 3-2 favorite in his U.S. debut. The 5-year-old bay came from Australia, where he was a multiple Group 1 winner with career earnings of $746,959 and five wins in 13 starts Down Under.
Leroy's Dynameaux was another half-length back in third and paid $2.60 to show.
The victory, worth $40,000, increased Carbonite's career earnings to $332,137, with 10 wins in 20 starts.
