Rapid Redux wins 22nd straight race by 3/4 length
January 4, 2012LAUREL, Md. (AP) - Rapid Redux extended his winning streak to 22 straight races with a 3/4 length win over Awesome Rhythm at Laurel Park on Wednesday.
The 6-year-old gelding took the lead just after the start and held off a challenge by Awesome Rhythm for the second straight race.
The horse ran despite trainer David Wells reporting a cut on his right foot Tuesday. Wells and owner Robert Cole decided he could run on Wednesday morning.
Rapid Redux tied a record last year by winning all 19 races he started. Claimed by Cole in October 2010, the winning streak began on Dec. 2, 2010.
Wells said he would decide in a few days whether Rapid Redux will keep racing. Cole said he wants to keep him running as long as possible.
