George Brennan wins harness driver of year award
December 21, 2011George Brennan, who became only the second driver to win the Hambletonian and Hambletonian Oaks on the same afternoon, has won his second straight harness driver of the year award.
The award was announced Wednesday by the U.S. Harness Writers Association.
The 44-year-old Brennan won 754 races and earned $14.53 million in 2011. The totals left him second among all drivers in North America this year and improved on his previous career bests of 622 victories and $12.61 million in 2010.
Brennan guided Broad Bahn to victory in the Hambletonian and Bold and Fresh in the Oaks on Aug. 6 at the Meadowlands. Brian Sears is the only other driver to win both of trotting's top races for 3-year-olds on the same day.
